The redesign of the Marpac Dohm sound machine was focused purely on interface and visual design, so no in depth user research was conducted. The redesign is based on educated assumptions and secondary research.
The Problem
The current, analog design of the Marpac Dohm sound machine presents some major challenges to the user: the controls are difficult to adjust and icons are nondescript. The interface does not support to the process of sleep and could be expanded on to improve the overall user experience
Solution
Implement a digital touch screen sound mixer with simplified gesture controls and raised-texture buttons with universally understood icons. Integrate bluetooth connection to allow Marpac to connect to Apple sleep routine to display time, alarms, and adjust screen display/color temperature.
